Changsha, Hunan, known for the heat, is said to make African students faint, forcing pandas to head down cold water to themselves. However this year it’s extremely cool, friendly welcome 89 Shin Shin school teachers from 17 provinces. July 18, 2016, the computer training and information technology backbone teachers training started in Changsha. The trainings are funded by Shin Shin, hosted by Hunan Vocational College of Science and Technology. Mr. Huang Zhibing, Director of Changsha Teachers Training Center and International Exchange Office, presided this opening ceremony. Mr. Li Sanfu, Principal of the college, Mr. Wan Xiaobin, Executive Vice President of the college, and Mr. Zhang Dachang, Director of Shin Shin Human Resources Department, participated this opening ceremony. Mr. Zhao Sanyuan, Deputy Director of Hunan Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, made a special trip back to attend the opening ceremony.

Hunan Vocational College of Science and Technology is one of specialist training bases, undertaking a large number of tasks for provincial, national and foreign related trainings. This school takes full advantage of resources, actively serve the local economic and social development, and carry out the education to help the poor. It has won many awards and incentives, including “Advanced Unit for National Youth Farmer Transfer Employment”, “Advanced Unit for National Warming Project”, and “Excellent Organization Management for Warming Projects”. The current and former leaders of the school, such as Yang Dongliang, Li Sanfu and Wang Xiaobin, have attached great importance to the cooperation with Shin Shin, helped contacting Hunan Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Provincial Eduction Department, and organized the whole school TO serve Shin Shin trainings.

Shin Shin has been cooperating with excellent Chinese universities and educational institutions and entrusted them to provide training for the schools and teachers. Since 2005, it has been 12 years, the cooperation with Hunan Vocational College of Science and Technology has been 9 years. The trainings have evolved dramatically for more requirements, for example, the first training was on English only, now we have trainings for English, computer, information technology, Maker and art. The training method evolved from face to face to combination of online and face to face. The training for teachers added teaching and class management methods. Three training centers are built up, including Hunan Vocational College of Science and Technology for the south, Northwest Normal University for the northwest, Jilin Normal University for the northeast. In addition to cooperating with domestic famous normal universities and educational institutions, Shin Shin fully exerts its advantages in English language and teaching resource from overseas foundations. In particular, we invited American English teaching experts to participate in the summer face-to-face training courses.

In 2016, Shin Shin officially opened online training and education resources sharing platform, in order to better understand the status of rural education and teaching level, increase the diversity and richness of teacher training mode, achieve the optimal allocation of resources and training programs for sustainable development. Mr. Sun Zhong, professor of Beijing Normal University, is responsible for the online training project. It took over half year for him and his team to collect resources and prepare courses. In the April, the first batch of online training courses were opened, and were greatly acclaimed. The courses include English teaching skills, information technology general skills and Maker. This time more than half of the 89 teachers were selected from the over 200 teachers who participated in the trainings in the first half of this year.

As one of the three training bases in China, Hunan Vocational College of Science and Technology has taken charge of dual tasks on information technology and general computer trainings. The training on information technology focuses on improving teachers’ professional and teaching level, such as computer construction and maintenance, local area network setup and maintenance, advanced courseware and animation buildup and so on. General computer training mainly focuses on improving teachers’s computer and multimedia skills, such as computer software, basic knowledge, courseware, micro-class buildup and so on.

The college arranged a strong team of lecturers, all teachers are all due diligence. They are admirable. Teacher Gong Fucheng patiently and carefully explained computer basic knowledges, campus interest groups organizing and computer performance competition. He also introduced his ideas and successful experiences on computer teaching. Teacher Zhou Wuyang use his solid computer knowledge, answered teachers’ questions on computer system installation, troubleshooting and notable items, intended to improve their troubleshooting abilities and confidence in the field of information teaching. Based on network concepts, hardware and software, teacher Deng Weijun provided a blueprint on information technology.

In addition, the college also specifically opened Maker lectures for Shin Shin trainers. Mr. Wu Junjie, director for Shin Shin Maker project, demonstrated how Maker works with his learning suite. Teacher He Kaiqiang and Zhang Qiang also had speech in the training. “Maker” means the person who strive to transform a variety of ideas into realities based on their interests and hobbies. They are a group of people who uphold innovation, continuous practice, willingness to share and pursue a better life. Wu said that the purpose of his promotion for Maker in Shin Shin and the whole country is “make the children in less developed areas learned to apply their newly studied knowledge on transforming the native and their own life” .

Although the training took only two weeks, Shin Shin school teachers and the college lecturers have formed a deep friendship and trust. Supported by Hunan Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, local educational units and the college, we believe that in the near future, Shin Shin will cooperator with the college in more in-depth, more successful, and build up a high-quality brand for Changsha training center.
